I guess the big news of the past month is the progress with my heel. We seemed to have finally resolved the issues with some therapy and some orthotics! I started running last week and for the first time ever I had no pain at all!! Now let’s not get too excited, I did a half mile, but it’s a start and a good one!
We also seem to have figured out an issue I was having with my shoulder and a cortisone injection later and my elbow is working again! Life as usual for me! Now that all of the aches and pains are in check I’m back in the weight room which is a good thing, I don’t think I could handle one more week in the pool and on the bike only! In fact I hit a pretty big motivational slump for about a week, I just didn’t want it anymore…well I did, I was just bored as hell!
Getting back to the weight room was a blessing and a curse, I felt a little bit like I was starting over the first couple of days back. I still feel a little like I’ve lost some of the progress I had made, but it’ll get better.
In other news, we had another adventure this past weekend; I went white water rafting with CK & family. We did one of the best runs in the US, the Upper Gauley in West Virginia! If you’re into seeing people getting launched out of rafts into boulders and white water, lookup “Sweet’s Falls” on YouTube…you will not be disappointed.
I can say that my enjoyment of these activities has gone up dramatically since I started all the insanity. Being in better shape and 30+ pound lighter makes these things so much easier and more fun. The next big thing is going to be getting serious about my nutrition. I have tried this before, half-heartedly, and failed (shocker) but I’m learning that I can only get so far without eating right and I’m at a point now where I really don’t want to eat all the crap I’ve always enjoyed before.
One big issue for me is that I’m lazy, I don’t want to have to think about what to make, or what I need to get at the store. I just eat out or throw something in the microwave; Stouffers and I are good friends! And I get SO frustrated with all the “diets” out there, they all claim to be the magic bullet for eating right and losing weight and the next day some new diet will come out that will be the exact opposite.
What I need to someone to say, “Here, make this”, or “eat that” and if I could find someone willing to go grocery shopping for me I’d be set! While I have yet to hire a personal assistant, I did fond a website that I’m test driving called emeals.com. They send me an email once a week with a menu, 7 main meals and 7 side dishes, in addition and here’s the big thing for me, they include a grocery list! I print it out and hit the store! They give you a 14 day test drive, so we’ll see how it goes. Oh, they also have a variety of nutritional plans, Classic, Clean Eating, Paleo, 30 Minute Meals, Slow Cooker, Low Fat, Low Carb, Low Cal, Diabetic, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, etc. I’ll let you know how it goes!
One more thing, one month from today MK and I will be in Tempe, AZ for her first Ironman!! She is gonna CRUSH it!! More on that later!
