The day was actually really nice for Ohio in December; it was chilly but not freezing and while it was cloudy it wasn’t snowing or raining. The atmosphere was festive to say the least, people in elf socks, Santa hats, antler headbands and even a full blown elf costume. There was a young man on crutches that had battery operated Christmas lights on his crutches and a gentleman on a bike that was also lit up.
I feel it should be noted that I actually did more than 3.1 miles because I had to park a ½ mile away and because I had to take stuff back to the Jeep I was 1.5 miles in when the gun went off! At any rate, off we went! I started near the back knowing full well I wasn’t going to set any land-speed records. I did however manage to run the first mile…big win for me! The second wile was more of a run/walk deal and mile three was a bit rough, my foot went completely numb, but all I had to do was stop and stretch a little and I was good to go for a little bit, and then repeat the process about a dozen times.
Overall I felt really good, I wasn’t sucking wind, I felt smooth and comfortable. I managed to do a mile non-stop and ran more than half of mile two. Now we just have to work on getting me through mile 3, then 4 and so on!
I think MK was the only one who knew I was doing this, in part because I wasn’t 100% sure I was going to actually do it. As a result I still had a regular workout for the day, so I headed over to MK’s gym and worked out with her. Between the 5k and the 100 back squats I had, I’m pretty sure my legs will be sore tomorrow!
