Having said that, I have a few things in my favor. Our office offers a “Healthy Lifestyles” program through our insurance. Part of this program is a card that will get us access to any participating gym in the country. And they have a website that will show you what gyms are available in a given area. Another plus is that the 24 Hour Fitness gyms are on the program, so if I get off site at 1am I can still, in theory, get in a workout. Another plus is that fact the KB is willing to adjust my workouts on the fly as my schedule changes.
I had a trip recently that took me to the great state of Texas! (I love Texas) Before the trip I took a look and found that there was a 24 Hour Fitness across the street from my job site! How perfect is that! I let KB know my schedule and what I had available, which was basically everything except a pool and she sent me a fantastic schedule full of pain and suffering…LOL!
I left for the trip on Monday morning. Generally speaking it’s hardest for me to get my workouts in on my outbound travel days (usually Mondays). I’m up generally around 5am just to make my flight and then the first day on a job site is usually the longest. This specific trip followed that norm, so I did not get to the gym on Monday.
By Tuesday, I was dying to get in the gym, keep in mind that at this point I haven’t worked out in over a week due to a virus/respiratory cold I had last week. I had to be on-site pretty early, but I expected to be off site at a reasonable hour. I could see the gym from the parking lot of my site, it was perfect! I decided to wander over and check the place out on my lunch break on Tuesday. Let the frustration begin! As I approached the door, I could see a sign on the door and hear the unmistakable sounds of construction. The sign on the door read “Closed for Remodeling. We will reopen on May 30th” Seriously?! I would love to tell you that I took this all in stride, but that would be a lie! There may or may not have been a fair amount of profanity mumbled under my breath on the trip back over to my site. Two weeks ago I twisted my knee, last week I was sick and now this!
At this point my options were a little limited; the next available gym on my program was 20 miles away, which just wasn’t going to happen. So I could either skip another week of workouts or I could let KB know. I went with option 2. So for two days I worked out at my hotel and found out that I really dislike “Mountain Climbers”!
While I wasn’t able to get back into the gym when I’d hoped, it did feel good just to get moving again!
