OK, that’s not entirely true, but it was at the beginning on the nutrition plan. For breakfast I had this bowl of various seeds, plus some oats, fruit, a little water and nut butter. I very quickly nicknamed it the “Bird Seed Bowl” It looks and tastes pretty much how’d you’d expect.
I also had bowl after bowl after bowl of lettuce, spinach, chicken and enough dressing to cover a sprig or two of lettuce. I got to the point where I just felt like the dressing was some kind of cruel joke! Add into the mix the fun of junk food withdrawal, I felt like total crap for days! Headaches, body aches, no energy and man was I cranky…more so than normal! It’s amazing I’m still employed!
But as I usually do I tried to find some humor in this, after all, if it’s not fun, it’s not worth it! I would find said humor in a somewhat unlikely place, black coffee! Now I know there are people out there who like to drink black coffee, I’m sure there are also people out there who enjoy have root canals, I’m just not one of them! But every day I get the joy of having not one, but two cups of black coffee. In case you missed the reference above, I do not like black coffee, in fact the only way I have ever had coffee is with about a half pound of sugar and a lot of cream in it. You may think I’m kidding, but I generally have syrup in the bottom of my coffee cup. In fact if I can actually taste the coffee, I’m not drinking it.
So, what am I to do, I hate coffee, but it’s on my program, so I have to drink it. The solution, turn it into a drinking game! Start with the smallest cup I can find, pill it ¾ full of coffee, add some ice (as not to injure myself with what’s about to happen), get a large glass of water, chug coffee as fast as humanly possible and chase it with the water. If done properly you really never taste the coffee!
After a few days I actually had an audience at work to watch this mess. And there might be a video…and maybe there isn’t!
The highlight of my day came with couple of scoops of peanut butter I got each day. I love peanut butter!! It took about a week for that to get switched to almond butter, which I can’t stand!
Now, before someone out there reads this and starts with comments like “I’d never do that” or “oh hell no” I have to admit a few things. The program was pretty strict at first, but it evolved and we added things that I really do like. And I do feel better, I sleep better, I have more energy and at the end of the day, if it helps me cross the finish line in Michigan, then it’s worth it. I like to poke fun at these things and laugh and joke, but I’m pretty committed to this!
