CK, my best friend, has done this sort of thing before; in fact she's run several full marathons. The farthest I have ever run is a 5k (3.1 miles). And I'm not sure you can call what I do "running". The average 2 year old can walk faster than I can "run".
I've never had any desire to run a full marathon, it seems like it would be unbelievably boring to run for that long.(which at my pace would take like 5.5 hours!) But who knows, if I somehow manage to magically pull this off, maybe I'll try a full marathon. We'll revisit this issue in about 6 months!
As I mentioned in my first post, we're not even sure if I'll be able to run at all. In the past I’ve had a condition called compartment syndrome in my left leg. While I might be able to get my super doctor friend to write a blurb on what exactly that is, the short version is my foot and ankle go completely numb, I trip, I fall. While this may provide some quality entertainment for those around who witness it, it can be a pretty serious issue for me. I had surgery to fix it, but haven't tried to run since. Right now the issue is my weight and my knees. While my mind says I can do anything, my knees disagree. So in the words of my doctor, "lose some weight Tam, your knees will like you longer."
I do have a backup plan, if I am physically unable to "run", I'll figure out how to speed walk. I've seen my mother do this, it’s both amazing and frustrating. I have to train before we go on vacation if I want any hope of keeping up with her! Yet one more reason she’s my hero! Either way, come September CK and I are gonna have a great time over the course of 13.1 miles!!
