When I got changed I realized everywhere I had missed with the body glide this morning…chaffing is just bad!! I felt better once I was cleaned up, but then I realized just how tired I was. I wondered out and found my people yet again, I held my nephew and my niece gave me some rocks she’d been collecting for me all day. She wanted me to go down to the beach with her and I felt bad that I was just too tired, but she seemed to understand.
We wondered back to the cars, I forced down a protein shake and talked with everyone about the day. The reality of it hadn’t really hit me yet. I still thought about the race as something I couldn’t do, even though I had just finished it. As promised KB had cupcakes waiting for me! (The things I’ll do for cupcakes! LOL!) We all send our goodbyes and everyone headed out. I had one more challenge, the business that had opened up its parking lot had also opened up its restrooms, so I changed into all my clean clothes before heading out. The challenge came when I found out I had to go up and down a small flight of stairs to get there!
On the dive home, we stopped and got some food. I had several calls from family and friends, I’m sure the mom got tired of hearing me recount the adventures of the day. Because the mom had also been up since 3am, I did not sleep on the way home, but rather helped to keep her awake and on the right course. We got back to the mom’s house about 11:00 or so. I still had to drive the five minutes home and it was when I tried to put my shoes on that I realized how sore and swollen my feet were. I managed to get my shoes on with a little bit of effort and a lot of profanity. My aunt made the trip to my house to help me unload the Jeep, take care of my 3 dogs and get me settled in. To be honest, I don’t remember laying down, I was out before my head hit the pillow.
