She discussed some pretty important issues, but did it in a way that was fun, lighthearted and at times flat out hysterical! She discussed a lot of her own struggles and short comings which made her seem more human rather than the super mega training god we see on TV. And her interaction with the crowd was great (God help the people in the first row, I’m both glad and slightly disappointed that I didn’t get a VIP ticket)
In addition it was pretty sweet to realize that the choices I’ve made in the past few months (get a trainer, set some specific goals, get moving, etc) followed the blueprint she presented last night. It just helped to reaffirm that what I’m doing is a positive thing and maybe, just maybe I’m on the right track. Towards the end of the show they put microphones out in the isles and let people from the crowd come up and ask questions or tell their stories. It was really inspiring to see these people get up in front of the Jillian and the crowd and discuss their own very personal battles with obesity and weight loss. The one lady had lost 97lbs in a year, another one has lost 35lbs this year and another lady just lost her mother to obesity related illnesses and made a pledge to get healthy so her kids will never have to go through what she just did. All in all it was pretty a great night.
The show went a lot longer than I had expected (and to be honest I wish it would have lasted another 3 hours or so) and as a result I left Columbus about 11:00, which should have put me home by about 1:00am, however I had to make a few stops and opted to take the back roads home because the interstate at night tends to make me extremely drowsy and driving while unconscious is a skill I have yet to master. I find that on the back roads I stay awake simply based on the constant adrenaline rushes I get from trying not to hit a deer, or cat, or raccoon! However before getting off the interstate I realized that I’ve had nothing to eat since 11:00am, this would explain the shakes anyway. By this point it’s midnight, and what’s open at midnight? Every college kid on the planet knows the answer to this question…Taco Bell! That’s right, I have hired a trainer, worked out every day this week and just left a Jillian Michael’s show and I rang “the bell” for dinner. I feel the need to tell you that I’m tracking my meals and all I could think was KB is going to kill me for this!!! (And she might!) But anyway you cut it, I was hungry! So two Beefy Nacho Grillers and a large Mt Dew later I was back on the road. I know, I know, I know…it was bad, I shouldn’t have done it, but I did!
Because I took the back roads and because I rang the bell and had to stop for gas (and a very large cappuccino), it took me three hours to get home. I finally pulled in the garage at 2:00am. I of course had to spend a little time getting my babies to calm down (I have 3 kids; they all have four legs and fur and they are ALWAYS happy to see me!) I pulled my stuff together for the gym tomorrow, no wait, today? Tomorrow? Whatever! I have to be up in 2.5 hours and get my fat, Taco Bell loving ass to the gym!
