The day was a rat race; I had to run to my uncles to setup his new wireless network, then head to our farm to work for a couple hours, then hit the gym, then go shopping, then go back to the farm. Pretty typical Saturday. My workout was simple, row a 5k. For once what looked simple on paper was pretty simple, the only big issue was the damn cold. I had to go slower than I normally would, but I knocked it out in 25 minutes. Now, if I could only run a 5k that fast! And I feel it important to note that have blisters on my hands! I know it sounds really weird, but I think it’s cool, some kind of physical proof of the work I’m doing.
I’m not one of those chics that enjoys shopping, in fact I’d rather get hit by a bus then send a day at the mall going from store to store looking at clothes, shoes and accessories. I don’t do fashion. If an event requires more than blue jeans a t-shirt and hiking boots, I’m not interested. There are a few exceptions to my dislike of shopping, if it has anything to do with hunting, camping, or sports of some kind, I’m all in! Today’s trip falls into the sports category. MK and I hit a bike shop and a running shoe store. It was a blast! The bike shop was great; I roamed around while MK talked to “the cute little vegan” about tire pumps, seats and helmets. In the end she bought a tire pump and a helmet and rented a seat to try out. Then it was off to the shoe store. Between the two of us, I think we tried on every single pair of shoes they had! But it was so much fun! The guy who helped us was great, he was very calm and understanding that it’s sometimes hard to find the right pair of shoes. I’ve bought running shoes before, but I’ve never spent this much time doing it. In the end I had a brand new pair of Brooks Adrenalines, the exact same shoe I’ve had for the past few years. And MK decided to try out a pain of Brooks herself. She also bought us both a Swim-Bike-Run car magnet and I decided to try some new synthetic running socks.
All in all we spent some cash, talked, laughed and in general had a great time. Regardless of how our triathlon dreams play out, we’re gonna look good!
